Hawkshead Community Pre School CIC, Main Street, Hawkshead, Cumbria, LA22 0NT
All families are important and can be assured of a friendly welcome for our staff at Pre School. This helps to create effective communication enabling information and knowledge to be shared between parents and practitioners. An effective partnership between parents and practitioners provides an ‘enabling environment’ for the children, allowing us to meet individual needs which results in a positive impact for learning and development.
Parents can visit the setting at any time and if they have a special skill or interest e.g. cookery, music, dance, or gardening, they are welcome to share this with the children.
Hawkshead Community Pre School aims to provide a working valuable partnership between parents/carers and practitioners. We value the importance of the sharing of information e.g. regarding observations made of progression in learning and development about children at home and in Pre School. An online journal recording progression in learning and development will be completed and shared with parents/carers. We welcome contributions to this journal from parents, allowing us to collaborate the information together. Your child’s ‘EExAT’ learning journey contains observations we make, photos and videos we take throughout your child’s time at Pre School, gradually building up a picture of your child’s learning. Having this learning journey online provides an excellent opportunity for us to share information about your child’s learning and achievements with you. Parents can add comments so that Pre School staff can find out which interests and activities your child enjoys and the learning they get up to at home. An opportunity for parents and practitioners to discuss this profile and the learning, development and individual needs of their child is provided at parent progress check meetings, or any other time. We hold ‘Key Worker and Coffee’ sessions once a half term where parents are invited in to our setting to discuss activities and progress in an informal way.
Our current parents have given brilliant feedback about the use of our previous online learning journal Tapestry:
‘The communication between Pre School and parents has improved massively with the Tapestry’
‘It’s a great interactive way of documenting their time at Pre School. My other children like to log on to see what their brother has been up to’
‘I love it! I found a little video of my child playing Hide and Seek, it was so lovely to see him happy and relaxed and it put my mind at ease.’
An ‘All about me’ information questionnaire will be completed by parents when the child first starts Pre School, allowing us to be aware of and follow individual preferences, interests and techniques adopted at home.
